Privacy Policy

CamCopilot (“the App”) is a dashcam app that records video and audio, detects driving events using on-device AI, and can use our cloud AI when you enable Cloud for improved plate recognition, type identification, descriptions, and location. This policy describes what data the App uses and where it is stored.
Data the App Uses
On your device (local only)
Camera
Used to record dashcam video. Video is stored on your device only unless you enable Cloud for improved AI.
Microphone
Used to record audio with the video. Audio is stored with the video on your device.
Motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope)
Used locally to detect impacts, sudden stops, and driving events. This data is stored with recordings on your device. If you enable Cloud, it may also be sent to our AI service for improved analysis.
Location (optional)
If you allow location access when you tap REC (Start recording), the App may attach approximate location or GPS coordinates to events (e.g. “Lat 37.12, Long -122.34”) so you can see where an event occurred. If you deny location, the App shows “Unknown” for location. Location is stored only in the App's local database on your device.
Photo library
The App can save recorded videos to your device's Photos library (gallery). This is optional and uses the same videos already stored by the App.
All recordings, events, and metadata (timestamps, event type, location if provided) are stored locally on your device. No account is required for basic use.
On-device AI (no data leaves your device)
License plate recognition can run entirely on your device using Google ML Kit when you are offline, when Cloud is disabled, or when our AI service is unavailable. In that case, video frames and OCR results stay on your device and are not sent anywhere.
Cloud AI (when Cloud Enabled)
When you turn on Cloud Enabled in Settings, the App may send:
- Video frames (images extracted from recordings) and sensor data (accelerometer, gyroscope, motion) to our AI service for improved accident/incident detection, license plate recognition, video naming, descriptions, type identification, and location.
That data is sent only to our AI backend. We combine on-device AI with cloud processing to provide the analysis.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not collect or store your data on our servers unless you turn on Cloud Enabled for improved AI analysis.
- The App does not require an account for recording, saving videos, or viewing events.
- The App works fully offline; network and backend use are optional.
Your Choices
Location
You can deny location permission; the App will show “Unknown” for event location.
Photo library
You can deny photo library access; the App will not save videos to your gallery.
Cloud
Turn off “Cloud Enabled” to keep all processing on-device (including local plate OCR via ML Kit) and send nothing to our servers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the App after updates means you accept the revised policy.
